When to visit Vietnam for the route you actually want

Vietnam is a country of microclimates — use the weather as a routing tool, not a reason to avoid a whole region.
The North: Hanoi, Sapa & Hà Giang
- September–November: golden season. Sa Pa's terraces turn deep yellow; the air is crisp.
- December–February: misty and atmospheric, cold enough for a wood-fire homestay night.
- March–May: cherry blossoms and clear hiking days before the summer rains.

The Central Coast: Huế, Hội An & Quy Nhơn
- February–August: dry season — beach days and lantern-lit evenings in Hội An.

The South: Saigon & The Mekong Delta
- November–April: dry season, low humidity — best for sampan mornings on the Mekong.
- May–October: green season — short, spectacular afternoon downpours that cool the city down.
